Co-creation Concept
We want to solve the challenges together: battery ignition in mixed waste and expanding the use of recycled resin

Toyota Motor Corporation aims to provide mobility that supports our customers' lives while also contributing to the realization of a circular society. To prevent battery fires from waste-mixed batteries and expand the use of recycled resin, we believe co-creation with society at large is essential, not just our own efforts. By joining forces with you, we aim to solve societal challenges faster.


Challenges we want to solve through co-creation:
① Preventing fire incidents involving lithium-ion batteries contained in waste
② Quantifying the impact of odors/fragrances from automotive interior materials on humans

① We want to detect and remove used lithium-ion batteries mixed in with household and small business waste and garbage as cost-effectively and effortlessly as possible.
② As the use of recycled resin expands, the need to consider the impact of odors/fragrances from recycled resin-based vehicle interior materials on drivers and passengers is growing. However, highly reproducible measurement methods simulating the vehicle interior environment are not yet fully established. Furthermore, even identical odors/fragrances are perceived differently by individuals, making quantitative evaluation difficult.

The Technology We Seek in Startups
① Waste and garbage are piled up, so we want to detect batteries that optical cameras may not fully capture in some cases. Additionally, since we need to ensure processing capacity within the limited space on-site, a certain level of detection speed and compactness is desirable.
② Odor/scent sensing technology. And a method for quantifying human sensory evaluation of odor/scent measurement results.
